If the person is undergoing consular processing, this medical examination can ONLY be done at the doctor/clinic/hospital authorized by particular the U.S. Embassy/Consulate the applicant is going for consular processing. The medical examination can not be done in the U.S. or any doctor/clinic/hospital not authorized by the particular U.S. Embassy/Consulate in the applicant’s home country or even if they are authorized by another U.S. Embassy/Consulate where applicant is not going for consular processing. The medical examination can not be done by the applicant’s family physician. The examination and immunizations they give conform to the standards and terminology prescribed by the United States Public Health Service (USPHS). Process After you receive your interview appointment letter, you must get the medical examination only by one of the designated panel physicians. Visit Panel Physician List and locate the list of the designated panel physicians, based on the first three letters of the applicant’s NVC case number. These physicans are local citizens practicing locally, and the examination they give to visa applicants conforms to standards and terminology prescribed by the United States Public Health Service. Any attemp by the applicant to influence the physician’s medical judgment will reflect unfavorably on the visa application. Contact any one of them to arrange the medical exam at least seven days before your immigrant visa appointment. Provide them with the immigration visa appointment or explain that the exam is for an immigrant visa applicant. They would be able to advise you of the cost of the exam and tests. You are also responsible for paying for any additional tests that may be required by the doctors. The cost of the medical examination is not included in the immigrant visa fee. Carry the following documents to the medical examination: Original appointment letter A passport Three recent photographs All medical records of vaccinations, prior illnesses or treatments, and prior chest x-rays. If some countries, the panel physician will forward the results of the medical examination directly to the U.S. embassy/consulate. However, in other countries, such as India, the panel physician will provide the applicant with his/her medical exam results in a sealed envelope. In this case, you must bring the x-ray and the unopened medical report to the interview. They physican may need four to seven days to prepare the results of yoru medical examincation. Medical examination details Medical examination results are reported on Form DS 2053 (Formerly OF 157), along with vaccination supplement form to report the results of the vaccination assessment. Medical Examination Validity The medical reports are valid for a period of one year from the date of your medical examination. The examination must be repeated if the reports have expired or will expire prior to your entry into the United States. Country Specific Information India You should make your own arrangements for examination by any of the listed panel physicians at least seven days before your immigrant visa appointment. The physician may need four to seven days to prepare the results of your medical examination. Collect the report from them and carry to the Consulate for your immigrant visa interview appointment. These physicians are Indian citizens practicing locally, and the examination they give to visa applicants conforms to standards and terminology prescribed by the United States Public Health Service.
